Cannonball Adderley described jazz singer Teri Thornton (1934-2000) as 'the greatest voice since Ella Fitzgerald'. Ella herself cited Teri as her favourite singer during a 1963 Down Beat magazine interview. Despite being a favourite among both musicians and critics in the '60s, Thornton remains an obscure figure today.
