Keeping the focus on the live \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003esounds of the band, the use of overdubs and studio tricks were \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ekept to a minimum. Albini’s mastery in capturing sound gave the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003etrio the ability to focus entirely on the playing while knowing \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe natural sounds would land. It takes the essential ingredients \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eof “guitar-based music” and “rock and roll power trio” and puts \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethem right out on the chopping block. It was a much more honest \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eapproach for the band—three humans getting primitive, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003estaying primitive. The goal was never to reinvent the wheel. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eSometimes it’s just about seeing how long one can hold on before\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003egetting thrown off. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThree points reflected in three mirrors; a pyramid of sonic\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003edestruction and psychic creation. Nothing people feed the \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eroots while the freaks fly free in the treetops—blind to vines, eyes \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eclosed, stuck in spit, triumphing the returning of beginnings and \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eends returning while beginning to see the time collapse.
