In 1965, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe two wed in Juárez, Mexico, and played alongside one\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eanother until her husband’s last performance in May, 1967. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eA Monastic Trio, created in the year following her husband’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003epassing, is Coltrane’s first recording as a band leader\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eand features six original compositions. While John’s spirit \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ecan be felt throughout—from the song titles (“Ohnedaruth” \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewas his adopted Hindu name) to the personnel (Jimmy Garrison, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eRashied Ali, and Pharoah Sanders were frequent collaborators)— \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ethe album showcases Alice’s immense talent \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003efor fusing spiritual free jazz and new age with classical, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eEastern, post-bop and gospel. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAs the late Amiri Baraka writes, “‘I Want to See You’ is \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003ea monastic piano concerto.
