After listening to their music, heåÊimmediately knew: "it was the sound of my new film". With anåÊexcellent cast of France‰۪s finest actors Romain Duris, Charlotte LeåÊBon, and the director himself, plus a script filled with tension, sexualityåÊand darkness, they knew there was a lot of musical territory to mine.åÊIt was agreed that they wanted to explore more analogue electroniqueåÊexperiments as well as working with a large string ensemble, to create
something that felt very modern and still cinematic.åʉÛÏDespite A Winged Victory For The Sullen being associated with filmåÊscore type music, trying to survive the process of creating the modernåÊfilm score is not for people with fragile egos. It requires those who areåÊthe most responsive to change. The director and the film presented aåÊnew set of challenges, so we decided to stop thinking about cinema asåÊan object, and moved closer to using the film‰۪s images as triggers foråÊexperiences. The more we were able to let go, and see the music asåÊsomething that happens, like a process ‰ÛÒ not a quality, the more weåÊwere able to reach a place that sounded like us. It was as if we wereåÊmaking our first record all over again, except being filtered throughåÊanother language littered with dead metaphors‰۝, the duo elaborate.åÊThe recording sessions began with their long time sound collaboratoråÊFrancesco Donadello in the form of some modular synth sessions in
Berlin. Dustin and Adam began working from the script in their ownåÊstudios, and after filming commenced they continued to create musicåÊthat could be used for first edits of the film ‰ÛÒ each day getting newåÊscenes that triggered ideas that would become the base of the filmåÊscore. Over the course of the next few months the two slowly craftedåÊthe music with weekly discussion from their studio to the editing room.åÊThe final sessions to what is now the score of Iris were recorded withåÊa 40-piece string orchestra at Magyar Radio in Budapest.åÊUpon label founder Robert Raths' request the over sixty minutes ofåÊmaterial were then edited down to a concise album listen at forty-oneåÊminutes with a physical release set for January 13, 2017. åÊThe artwork was created by Berlin based illustrator Stephanie F.åÊScholz who also created the iconic cover for Nils Frahm's Music foråÊThe Motion Picture Victoria.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0973/1463/6153/files/a-winged-victory-for-the-sullen-iris-south-records-ltd_a9a21b2d-f9e9-4618-9c65-12c8cc46832b.jpg?v=1787901620
